Facilities

The facility is well maintained having access to a backup generator, servicing the main building in the event of a power failure. Wami Kata has solar panels, taking advantage of the warm climate and saving energy costs. All buildings have been ember proofed with stationary water tanks providing additional safety in the event of threatening bush fire. CCTV provides added security visually on most external areas of the facility with communication to every area on site.

The facility has an up to date Emergency Risk Management Plan should the need arise we are well equipped to manage areas of concern.

Care & Services

Wami Kata Old Folks Home provides 32 residential care beds including respite and palliative care. Wami Kata has a secure location providing quality cultural care and support to people living with dementia, chronic illness and ageing in place. Residents need to have or be willing to have an Aged Care Assessment to qualify for admission. Five Community Care Packages are available to nearby Davenport Community and Port Augusta. These services include assistance with personal hygiene, meals and medications. Other assistance may be negotiated with the Care Co-ordinator, Clinical Care Manager and onsite Manager.

Wami Kata staff provide high quality care to residents in a culturally appropriate setting. Family and visitors are very welcome. Wami Kata is staffed 24/7 with Enrolled Nurses as our high care resident needs require this level of service. All staff satisfy national police checks and are have relevant qualifications for the position held within the organisation. Wami Kata staff are the organisations most valuable asset and are committed to continuous quality improvements which have seen the facility be recognised in 2013 Port Augusta Aged Care Service of the year and 2015 NAIDOC Business/Organisation of the Year.

Accommodation

Wami Kata has pleasant surroundings which offer spacious outdoor areas including specially designed residential huts to meet cultural needs which are mainly twin share accommodation and have amenities such as air-conditioning, television, specialised beds and equipment, cabinets for resident’s belongings, walk in robe and bathroom facilities.

The main building comprising of an Administration area, Nurses Station, Treatment room, Kitchen, Laundry, Dining Room and Television sitting room. Two adjoining veranda’s provide a secure fire enclosure, ceiling fans and plenty of seating areas overlooking the well-kept gardens and Flinders Ranges in the background. Wami also has a Craft room located off the front entrance of the facility which has wheelchair access to enable resident’s involvement in activities of interest.
